Neiel Baronberg, M.D. is a Board Certified Comprehensive Ophthalmologist at The Eye Center. He is also an associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Colorado – School of Medicine. Dr. Baronberg received his medical degree from the SUNY Downstate Medical School in New York. He was also elected to the National Honor Medical Society. Following this, he completed his residency at the Manhattan Eye and Ear Hospital in New York City.
After his formal training, Dr. Baronberg received an International Eye Foundation Fellowship to teach in Karachi, Pakistan and then at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. Upon returning to the United States, he and his wife, Joan, moved to Denver where he established a private practice in Lakewood. He was also a chairman of the Ophthalmology department of St. Anthony Hospital and Porter Hospital.
Dr. Baronberg volunteers regularly at the Eye Clinic of Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. He also travels yearly in coordination with Boulder Community Hospital to Mante, Mexico where he performs cataract surgery for the local indigenous farming population which has no other resources for this care.
Dr. Baronberg also supports the Bluff Lake Nature Center and Surgical Eye Expeditions International. His other activities include book club participation, biking, skiing, racquet sports, and travel. He recently traveled to Burma, Ukraine, and Israel. Neiel and his wife have two grown children, Jeremiah and Sabrina now living in New York City.
