About Cataract Surgery and Lens Implants
Cataract surgery and lens implant surgery is safe, effective, as well as of the most successful surgical procedures performed in the United States today.
In order to understand more about cataracts, cataract surgery and lens implants, it is important to learn about your eyes.
In order to see clearly, light must pass freely through the two main components of your eyes: the Cornea and Crystalline Lens. The Cornea, the outermost clear, curved window, is visible when looking at your eye from a side view. In contrast, the Crystalline Lens is located behind the colored part of the eye and is not directly visible. If you have not had chronic eye infections, inflammation, or eye damage, the Cornea should maintain clarity during your life. The Crystalline Lens, however, undergoes a number of changes as we age. Consequently, as we hit 40 and older, the changes in the Crystalline Lens directly affect our vision in two main ways. The first is Presbyopia, or a loss of flexibility, and the second is a loss of clarity.
